In an effort to decongest the traffic flow in Gurugram, new flyovers and underpasses will be constructed in Gurugram. The district has been given more flyover and underpass projects.
“The sites where construction work is likely to soon start are at Hero Hoda Chowk to Northern Peripheral Road (NPR), Near HUDA City Center Metro Station. Aaprt from these, Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) will be constructed at Mahavir Chowk, flyover at Gurudwara Road and Kadipur Chowk to help pedestrians cross roads safely.
Once operational, the FOBs will reduce the number of jay walkers who crowd the already slow moving traffic”, an official said.
Recently some projects were formally commissioned for commuters which included the newly built eight-lane Hero Honda Chowk Flyover, two-lane Underpass from Chaudhary Bhakhtawar Singh road towards Delhi near Rajiv Chowk, four-lane Maharana Pratap Flyover on Mehrauli-Gurugram road, Underpasses at Hero Honda Chowk, Signature Tower, Iffco Chowk and Rajiv Chowk.
“The state government has decided that road from Hero Honda Chowk to NPR on NH-48 will be expanded to six lanes.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will construct the portion from Hero Honda Chowk to Shaheed Captain Umang Bhardwaj Chowk on Pataudi road, the official added.
The stretch after this will be constructed by the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG). This road would also have the facility of an underpass, two flyovers or one railway over bridge, he said
Meanwhile, HUDA City Centre which has been beset with perennial traffic woes as haphazardly parked autos outside the Metro station is set for a facelift.
The State Government has decided to modify the HUDA City Center Metro Station junction. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and GMDA will jointly construct an FOB and an underpass at this junction so as to facilitate the people.
Apart from this, the authorities are also planning to construct a flyover or underpass near Atul Kataria Chowk to tackle traffic load on Old Delhi Road. The road will have six lanes from Mahavir Chowk to Palam Vihar curve, after which it will be widened as per available space.
“The construction of these projects is expected to smoothen traffic flow to a great extent in Gurugram. These projects were also demanded by the several residents in the city,” he said.
