Teams of electricity department officials conducted raids at several locations in the urban and rural area of Chas on Wednesday and lodged FIR against 15 people for stealing electricity at the local police stations. A fine of over Rs. one lakh was also imposed against the defaulters.
All the defaulters were found using illegal power connections. “They were using electricity without taking official connections in their houses,” said S Laha, Assistant Electrical Engineer, Bokaro.
“During raids, we have interacted with the people and got the feedback that, most people understand that stealing electricity is illegal, yet power theft continues not only in Bokaro but across the country,” he said.
“Theft of electricity is a crime, punishable by fines and or imprisonment. Despite our consistent raids, power theft incidents are still coming to light in Bokaro as people have started opting for new ways for stealing power,” he added.
