Film city near Chandigarh soon

Cameras are all set to roll in Punjab with the State Government planning to establish its own Film City near Chandigarh.

With the increased demand of Punjabi culture and Punjabi songs in Bollywood, Punjab Government has decided to setup a Film City near Chandigarh which would provide the needed infrastructure to Punjabi cinema and offer desired location to Bollywood producers.

The government has initiated the proceedings in this direction, said the state Additional Director (Tourism and Cultural Affairs) Lakhmir Singh, while speaking at the seminar during the 14th edition of PITEX organized in association with Punjab Government.

He apprised that the State Government is spending Rs 215 crore in the current financial year to promote tourism and the budget of Rs 227 crore has been decided for the next financial year.

He updated that there is an increase of 27 percent domestic tourist and 30 percent international tourist in last two years in Punjab.

Lakhmir Singh said that there are ample opportunities in the field of medical tourism and religious tourism in the State. “Punjab Government is going to offer world class facilities at the upcoming Medi City being set up near Chandigarh. Destinations like Virasat-e-Khlasa in Amritsar and the upcoming exhibition Centre at Kartarpur Sahib are world class and can attract tourists from India and abroad,” he said.
