The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has commissioned the Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Directional Range (DVOR) at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport here on Monday.
The DVOR is a standard International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) ground-based navigational aid that provides information to define air traffic control routes for en-route, terminal and instrument approach/departure procedures.
Inaugurating the state-of-the-art infrastructure, AAI Executive Director (ER) SP Yadav said the minimum visibility criteria which used to be 5 km shall be reduced to 2.3 km after the implementation of AIP supplements and updation in FMS of aircraft by September 12. Thus it would provide a major relief to passengers facing bad weather en-route.
The DVOR along with DME (Distance Measuring Equipment) of Intelcan which were installed at the Jharsuguda Airport in February have been tested for air and ground calibration by FIU unit of AAI headquarters.
“With the second airport in the State, Jharsuguda is emerging as a gateway to western Odisha. The AAI under the aegis of the Ministry of Civil Aviation is committed to develop and upgrade airport infrastructure in the country and the recent upgradation has taken place at a cost of Rs 6.30 crore,” added Yadav.
