DL, RC cancellation through online now

Wednesday, 13 February 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

To check accidents, the Transport Department has now decided to send recommendations of cancellation of driving licence (DL) and vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) of offenders online.

The earlier method of sending recommendation for suspension of DL and RC by Post was a time taking process. Now, the online recommendation will be reflected in the home page of the competent officer, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), on real time basis and, thus, suspension or blocking of the documents can be taken soon, Transport Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda has said.

Several applications of the information technology system are being applied for bringing transparency in the system, he said. This will reflect in all eChallan app implemented across all States enforcement Officers’ device. Based on the information, they can take suitable action as per law, said a senior officer.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) for validation of DL, RC and other documents in electronic form through IT or mobile applications.

Citizens are provided mParivahan Mobile App for DL, RC and other details for their ease and they can produce online virtual copy of these documents and enforcement officers will have to accept documents in electronic form.

Citizens can download the DL and RC through these Apps and store it in mobile devices.

For generating challan for violation, the enforcement officer can create a challan using an online PoS or CCTV eChallan facility using the real time database of ‘Vahan’ and ‘Sarathi’, said the officer.

After creating a challan, offence history would be registered in the database in VAHAN for the vehicle and SARATHI for the driver.

Thus, all offence data would be easily available to the enforcement officers throughout the country.
