DK Tiwari on Sunday took charge as the 23rd Chief Secretary of Jharkhand at the State Secretariat. Outgoing CS Sudhir Tripathy handed over the charge to him on Sunday evening in presence of senior bureaucrats.
Tiwari, a 1986 batch IAS officer, was serving as Development Commissioner before taking the top position in the State bureaucracy.
After taking charge, Tiwari said, “My priority is to work on the set goals of State’s development and make it one of the best States in the country.”
Born in Mahoba, a town in Bundelkhand region of Uttar Pradesh in 1969, Tiwari has a degree in MBBS and LLB along with a master’s degree in economics.
After completing his schooling from Mahoba, Tiwari pursued MBBS from King George's Medical College, Lucknow in 1977-82 batch. He later got an LLB degree from Chhotanagpur Law College in Ranchi and then a Masters of Arts in Economics from University of Manchester, United Kingdom in the batch 1998-99.
After cracking the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in 1986, he was selected for Indian Administrative Service and joined as an officer in the undivided Bihar. He continued serving in Jharkhand after the division of Bihar in 2000.
Tiwari served as principal secretary to the Chief Minister from 2010 to 2013 and then principal secretary, human resource department and planning department in 2013-14.
He became the Principal Resident Commissioner of Jharkhand Bhavan in New Delhi in 2014 and continued till 2017 before being posted as additional chief secretary, labour and water resources department, where he served till May 2018.
Meanwhile, additional chief secretary, planning cum finance department, Sukhdeo Singh was posted as the Development Commissioner of the State.
