The national Capital has become the sole State in the country to give a cheapest electricity to the public, said the Delhi Government after revising the electricity tariff rate in the city. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)  Government on Wednesday reduced the fixed rate charges of electricity.

Congratulating the Delhiites, the Finance Minister Mainsh Sisodia said, “Delhi is the only state in the country that has not allowed electricity bills to rise for five consecutive years. Not just have prices have not gone up, they have actually gone down during the last five years.

In every other state in the country, electricity prices continually increase year-on-year. In Delhi, the electricity bill for 200 units with 2 kW load in 2010 was Rs 539. In 2013, this went to Rs 928. In 2018 the bill was Rs 660, and after today’s order the bill for 200 units will now be Rs 408.”

The Minister further claimed that there has been reduction in the substantial power cuts in the Delhi for the past five years since theAAP Government to power.  “Power cuts were a regular feature in Delhi only some years ago. Now the generator set, inverter industry has been forced to shut down because of regular and reliable power supply in the city,” he added.

“A consumer using electricity of up to 200 units per month has to pay Rs 408, but in Gurugram and Noida, one has to shell out Rs 910 and Rs 1,310 respectively. In Rajasthan, one has to pay Rs 1,588 every month for consuming electricity of up to 200 units, but in Mumbai, it is Rs 1,400.Instead of a hike in power rates, there has been a reduction in Delhi, he said.

Meanwhile, the Power Minister Satyendar Jain said to promote electric vehicles in the city, the price of Low Tension (LT) consumers has been cut down from Rs 5.50/unit to Rs 4.50/unit. For High Tension (HT) consumers, it has been reduced from Rs 5/unit to Rs 4/unit.” “Further  traders, businessmen and service providers will be benefitted largely by this order as commercial connection rate up to 3 kW load has been reduced from Rs 8.50 to Rs 6. This will significantly benefit local kirana shops, doctors, CAs, and others,” said Jain.
