According to the Municipal Corporation Dehradun (MCD) officers, the waste to energy plant project is going to take longer than planned. The paperwork regarding the plant is under process which can take more than four to five months to take off.
As per the sources, the waste to energy plant is a waste management facility that combusts waste to produce electricity. The total cost of the project is pegged at around Rs 122 crore.
Queried over the matter, the chief municipal health officer Kailash Joshi said, “Proposals have been given by the companies and it would be approved by the State Government. Though we do not have much of a role in the approval of the project we have put forward some terms and conditions regarding the project which is under process. We hope the project would be approved soon. However, it would take some time.”
Joshi further said, “The minimum quantity needed to process such a plant is 500 metric tons of garbage per day. Currently, we produce just 250 to 300 metric tons which is not enough for the operation of the plant.
So not just approval proper planning is also needed. As the city does not produce 500 metric tons of garbage per day we may have to collect garbage from other areas.”
