Delhi is generating 146 MW solar power by installing rooftop solar panels in schools, markets, institutions and other buildings under Mukhya Mantri Solar Power Yojna. Delhi Power Minister Satyendar Jain said that immediately after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government came to power in Delhi, it promoted installation of solar panels in housing societies in Delhi under Mukhya Mantri Solar Power Yojna.
"The rooftop installations of solar panels progressed with significant pace. It has also helped in cutting CO2 emission by 500 tonne every day," he said.
Delhi Government's flagship scheme (Mukhya Mantri Solar Power Yojna) was launched in 2018 to transform the power sector in Delhi, he added.
"Now we started installing solar panels in housing societies. From these solar plants, power can be supplied for the common utilities like parking, lift, clubs, gym etc." he said.
Jain further said that this initiative has reduced the electricity bill from Rs 10 per unit to Rs 1 in these households. Apart from this, the overall electricity bill of the societies with solar plants has also been reduced by 50 per cent, he said, adding that it is not only environment friendly but also highly economical comparing to other sources of power", he said.
"In Dwarka area, there is a boom in installing rooftop solar panels, as nearly 25 per cent of the societies availed the scheme in the last year. I wish that all housing societies shall come forward to install the solar panels and to promote the use of clean and sustainable energy", he added.
Delhi government provide 30 percent subsidy on setting up the solar plant to install rooftop solar panels in residential complex, he said.
According to Manish Yadav, Project Manager at Revanta, that help in setting up solar plants under this scheme, the electricity bill in the housing societies installing solar plant has been reduced by 50 per cent. "Solar panels of mono-crystalline modules which save electricity better have been installed in housing societies. The subsidy reaches directly to the beneficiaries," he said, adding that apart from residential societies, institutions like schools, colleges, hospitals and NGOs also can avail the benefits of this scheme", he added.
Subroto Banerjee, vice-president of Balaji group housing society, which has set up a solar plant under the Chief Minister Solar Power Scheme said he is very satisfied with reduced electricity bills due to the solar plant. "We are saving Rs 1,55,000 on electricity bill in a year due to this scheme," he said.
