The Odisha Primary Teachers’ Association (Under New Pension Scheme) on Tuesday condemned the attack on a woman teacher at the Ambapada Primary School under Niali block of Cuttack district on Monday.
The association said that the teachers must a get a good environment in school and feel safe for imparting education and hence, the attack on teacher Sushismita Muduli by a miscreant with a dagger by intruding into the school premises is not acceptable.
There is provision in the Right to Education (RTE) Act that the Government has to provide facilities like boundary wall and appoint peon and watchman in every school. But sadly, in many schools, these facilities are not provided. Consequently, the miscreants are finding the schools and teachers an easy target, said the association.
“Today the teachers are targeted and if the students are attacked tomorrow who will be responsible? If the teachers are not provided safety and the required facilities are not ensured, we would resort to agitation by involving all sections of teachers,” warned association president Brahmananda Maharana and general secretary Bibhu Prasad Sahu.
