Commuting is set to get smooth and easy especially for those travelling to national Capital from Noida and Ghaziabad as the Delhi Cabinet chaired by the Chief Minister Arvind Kejrwal has approved the proposal to extend the existing Ashram flyover on Thursday. The Ashram flyover on Ring Road will be extended to Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Flyway with six lanes.
As per the officials, the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to chalk out a plan to deal with the traffic jam near Ashram flyover, following which the department came up with an expansion plan.
As per the proposal, the proposed of six lane flyover will start from abutment of the existing Ashram flyover on the Ring Road and end at DND inter-change of the traffic coming and going to Noida. Further, a three-lane ramp will be constructed for the traffic coming on Ring Road from Sarai Kale Khan will join the proposed flyover after interchange and a three lane down ramp will be provided for the traffic proceeding towards Bala Shaheb Gurrudwara road on ring road.
Currently, the vehicles going from Noida and Ghaziabad to South Delhi have to struggle to get from DND loop to Ashram inter-section. Also, those going to South Delhi from ITO and Sarai Kale Khan have to go through two to four jams. Many times people gets late in commuting to and from office. Sometimes it takes even half an hour for people to reach this inter-section. This causes problems to thousands of people.
Apart from this, a three-lane up-ramp for vehicles going from ITO and Sarai Kale Khan to South Delhi will also be made for this flyover from DND loop. The total length of the flyover is 1,425m. Further, one subway at Maharani Bagh junction for the pedestrians is also in the plan.
The proposed flyover’s estimated cost is Rs 128.95 crore will decongest the traffic on the stretch from Sarai Kale Khan to Moolchand crossing and is expected to complete by next year.
“With the expansion of the flyover, people will get relief from the traffic jam near Ashram and Maharani Bagh, and thousands of commuters will benefit from this. At the Ashram flyover during the peak hours, there is a huge traffic, due to which there is jam between Ashram-DND. Now people will get rid of this jam with Ashram flyover expansion plan,” said the Chief Minister.
“Once the flyover will be extended, one will not have to travel four kilometers to cross the road from Kilokari. Now, after only one and a hundred meters from Kilokari to the ring road, the drivers will be able to cross the road by taking a U turn. Also they will be able to go towards Maharani Bagh or South Delhi. Similarly, one will not have to travel one kilometer from Maharani Bagh to Sarai Kale Khan, Noida, ITO and Ghaziabad. After taking 150 meters on the Upper Ring Road, the driver will be able to go towards the destination by taking a U turn,” said a PWD official.
Officials further added that pedestrians will also have a safe travel. Currently, at Maharani Bagh pedestrians take support of Red Light to cross the road on the Ring Road. Red Light will be scrapped after this plan. Also, there will be a subway constructed for pedestrians, with which pedestrians will be able to move safely.
As per official data, a total number of about 13,500 vehicles use this road, out of which 7,500 comes from Noida and Ghaziabad and 6,000 from South.
