Punjab unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday accused the Punjab Government of allowing Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) indulge in an open ‘loot’ of power consumers in the State on behalf of private companies and government-sponsored power mafia.
“The deliberate delay in generating and dispatching bills to the consumers by two-and-a-half months is making them paying an additional expense raging between 15 and 20 percent,” said AAP MLA and party’s ‘Bijli Morcha’ campaign’s coordinator Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer adding that the party had raised the issue of inordinate delay in dispatching of bills and grant of new power connections.
AAP’s state unit president and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said that like the erstwhile Badal Government, the Captain Amarinder Singh Government too was indulging in an open ‘loot’ of the consumers.
“Electricity offices in the state are not functional for the past more than 20-25 days. Electricity bills, which should have reached all kinds of consumer 15-20 days ago, have not been even generated, and those seeking amendment in the wrongly-generated bills or seeking new power connections are left to suffer,” he said.
Mann said that the Captain Government was playing in the hands of private power companies and government sponsored mafia.
Meet Hayer demanded that the PSPCL should direct all concerned to revert to monthly bill system instead of two-month being followed to save common consumers from being openly fleeced, saying that the government should make all government power plants functional by scrapping the anti-state and anti-people PPAs entered into between both of them.
