Monday, 05 August 2019 | Roshan Kumar | Ranchi

Around 5,000 full time BJP members in State on Sunday launched a special day long membership drive with a target to enroll five lakh new members. The 5,000 full time members moved across the State, visiting villages, panchayats, blocks and party’s shakti kendras to achieve the target.  Each full time member was given the target to make at least 100 new members.

The Sunday membership was the biggest exercise carried out by a political party making five lakh members in a single day in State. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)—youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been given the task to achieve the target.

BJYM State President Amit Kumar said, “This is the biggest membership exercise carried out by BJYM in a day. To achieve the task, strategy was chalked out among office bearers from all panchayats/wards, shakti kendras, mandals, district and state officers from all 81 Assembly segments.  The office bearers from these units were provided with membership slips to achieve the target.” Kumar further said, “The full time 5000 members visited door-to-door within the shakti kendras with an aim of making minimum 100 members each. The drive which started in morning continued till evening. The BJP cadres were asked to give special focus/attention to youths, women, working professional, businessmen, farmers, minorities, tribals and other section of society in making members so as to achieve the target.” Prior to Sunday membership drive, the BJYM on July 6, on the occasion of martyrdom of BJP ideologue and Jan Sangh founder, Syama Prasad Mookerjee launched a membership at different educational institutions enrolling new members. Sources said that through the membership day, the BJYM had already made 1.6 lakh new members.

Sources said that BJYM target of making five lakh members will add to BJP’s target of making 30 lakh members across the State ahead of Assembly election. To achieve the target, the party has asked its MLAs/district president to make at least 50,000 members from each Assembly segments. Continuing with BJP membership drive, AJSU party leader Munchun Rai, who contested for the post of deputy mayor of Ranchi in municipal elections held in April 2018, too joined Saffron party along with large number of his supporters in presence of Urban Development Minister CP Singh, Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal and others.
