Around 5,000 full time BJP members in State on Sunday launched a special day long membership drive with a target to enroll five lakh new members. The 5,000 full time members moved across the State, visiting villages, panchayats, blocks and party’s shakti kendras to achieve the target. Each full time member was given the target to make at least 100 new members.
The Sunday membership was the biggest exercise carried out by a political party making five lakh members in a single day in State. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM)—youth wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party has been given the task to achieve the target.
BJYM State President Amit Kumar said, “This is the biggest membership exercise carried out by BJYM in a day. To achieve the task, strategy was chalked out among office bearers from all panchayats/wards, shakti kendras, mandals, district and state officers from all 81 Assembly segments. The office bearers from these units were provided with membership slips to achieve the target.” Kumar further said, “The full time 5000 members visited door-to-door within the shakti kendras with an aim of making minimum 100 members each. The drive which started in morning continued till evening. The BJP cadres were asked to give special focus/attention to youths, women, working professional, businessmen, farmers, minorities, tribals and other section of society in making members so as to achieve the target.” Prior to Sunday membership drive, the BJYM on July 6, on the occasion of martyrdom of BJP ideologue and Jan Sangh founder, Syama Prasad Mookerjee launched a membership at different educational institutions enrolling new members. Sources said that through the membership day, the BJYM had already made 1.6 lakh new members.
Sources said that BJYM target of making five lakh members will add to BJP’s target of making 30 lakh members across the State ahead of Assembly election. To achieve the target, the party has asked its MLAs/district president to make at least 50,000 members from each Assembly segments. Continuing with BJP membership drive, AJSU party leader Munchun Rai, who contested for the post of deputy mayor of Ranchi in municipal elections held in April 2018, too joined Saffron party along with large number of his supporters in presence of Urban Development Minister CP Singh, Hatia MLA Naveen Jaiswal and others. Rai who is associated with different social organizations in State is also the president of Ranchi Railway Station Durga Puja Samiti. As the Saffron party has focused to make members from different section of society, on Saturday international power lifter, Sujata Bhakat too joined the BJP. Bhakat, an international power lifter has won several medals and trophies at national and international events including Asain Gold power lifting championship 2001 held at Kobe Japan, Asia and Europe Power lifting championship 2015 among others.
Similarly, during the recent visit of BJP membership drive national in-charge Shivraj Singh Chouhan to State Capital, around 400 sportsperson joined the BJP.
Apart from sportsperson joining BJP, last month JMM top legal brain and JMM chief Shibu Soren’s close confidante and senior advocate of Patna High Court, Ravi Shankar Mazumdar joined the BJP in presence of BJP national working president JP Nadda. Sources said that Mazumdar, had never been JMM member but was considered as one the legal brains working for both Shibu Soren and Hemant Soren. He was appointed as State Advocate general twice first in 2010 when Guruji was Chief Minister and second time in 2013 when Hemant was Chief Minister.
