As many as 20 cows were electrocuted after they came in contact with a electric live wire lying on the ground on Sunday morning in Sagar district.
The incident occurred near Kadta village when the cows out for grazing in a forested area stepped on the power supply cable that got snapped from poles and lying on the ground, an official said.
Confirming the death of the 20 cows due to electrocution, Sagar superintendent of police Amit Sanghi said police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. "Further action will be taken after investigation," he said.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition and local MLA Gopal Bhargava, who represents Rehli assembly constituency, has demanded compensation for owners of the deceased cows.
He also sought action against the officials concerned of Electricity department.
Meanwhile, Minister for Energy Priyavrat Singh has expressed grief over the incident of death of 20 cows due to electric current in Kadta village of Sagar district. Singh has given instructions for immediate approval of financial assistance as per rules to the owners of the dead cows.
This incident has occurred in Rahli block because of the burst of the pin insulator due to rains. The electricity line broke due to the lightning. Repair work is being done by Electricity Board Division, Rahli.
