Two labourers died due to asphyxiation in an under-construction septic tank at Sujang village under the Sadar police limits in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Raju Bhoi of Sujang and Prakash Barik of Mandasahi.
According to reports, the duo had entered into the septic tank of one Balaram Pati in the village for its renovation work. Soon later, they stopped responding to those who were present outside the tank and supervising the work.
Then, both were spotted lying unconscious in the tank, following which they were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital here, where doctor declared them dead.
The bodies were sent for postmortem while police started investigation into the incident.
