The Odisha Parents’ Federation has suggested to the Union Government to make provisions of creating ample infrastructure and appointing adequate numbers of teaching and nonteaching staffs in educational institutions in the proposed National Education Policy.
The federation held a two-day workshop to discuss various points on the Draft National Education Policy 2019 and make suggestions for formulating the new policy as wanted by the Human Resource Development department of the Union Government.
Educationists, representatives of educational institutions, parents, teachers, administrative officials and the Education Minister participated in the workshop. The suggestions cropped up during discusses would be presented in form of a document to the HRD Minister, said federation members.
Apart from the two suggestions, many participants also laid emphasis on providing training to teachers and imparting of research-based education. ‘Equal work, equal pay’ and uniformity in appoint of teachers were suggested by many others. The workshop was presided over by federation president Basudeb Bhatt.
While Anil Pradhan highlighted about the Right to Educaion, Rama Devi University’s Dr Bani Sengupta discussed about Indian Language and mother tongue in the first session. In the second session, CYSD’s Basant Nayak made a speech on ‘education and finance’. Bhumohan Patnaik talked about various problems of private educational institutions. Raghunath Mandal and Smruti Ranjan Jena discussed about syllabus and education for differently-able persons, respectively. Teachers’ leader Golak Nayak and Dr Gagan Beura emphasised on higher education.
Attending concluding ceremony, Prof Binayak Rath discussed about various positive aspects of the education system. ODM Principal Satyabrata talked about importance of parents in the field of education. While federation advisor Manoj Jena criticised Government rules, Ashok Kumar Paikaray wanted that the Centre allocate more funds for the education sector. Laxmikant Paikaray presented the full report of the two-day workshop. Lili Jenamani successfully coordinated the two-day programme.
