With motive to strengthen community policing, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik on Friday inaugurated ‘Digital-Police Public Library’ at Police Station Jamia Nagar complex.  Speaking on the occasion, CP emphasized on the need of such community policing initiatives to bridge the gap between the police and the public and also to wean away local youth from anti-social activities and to provide them an opportunity to excel in various fields.

He further highlighted that this library will be available for both girls and boys of the area for achieving academic excellence. He also lauded the efforts of the South-East District & 'Shikhar Organisation for Social Development' for developing such a useful community policing asset.

He appreciated the fact that this was the first such initiative in the country and possibly the world. He also stressed upon the need for more such projects to bring about a better police-public connection to reflect how small initiatives can lead to big change in the areas.

"The library which is brain child of CP aims at getting across to the school and college going children and to showcase a caring face of the police among the upcoming generation and to help them in their studies as well as to prepare them for various competitive exams," said Anil Mittal, Additional Public Relation Officer (APRO), Delhi Police.

"This library was opened by the South-East District in association with a NGO 'Shikhar Organisation for social development'. In the past seven years, more than 50,000 children residing in the vicinity of Jamia Nagar have benefitted from this community outreach programme. Police staff along with the representatives of the NGO Shikhar, have made sincere efforts to keep this library operational and updated," said APRO.

"The newly inaugurated digital library comprises a state of the art SMART class room and 10 fully upgraded digital workstations wherein students can have access to digital content including web based resources, multimedia and online documentation," the APRO added.
