Long-term Audi ambassador Virat Kohli unveils the car
German luxury carmaker Audi today took the wraps off the eight generation of its executive sedan, the A6 in India. The carmaker which has suffered from the negative fallout of the “Dieselgate” scam that engulfed its parent Volkswagen has only launched the vehicle in a 250hp petrol variant featuring a ‘mild hybrid’s that improves fuel economy. Speaking at the launch alongside Virat Kohli, Indian cricket team captain and Audi India brand ambassador, Balbir Dhillon, Audi India’s new Head, said that car penetration is still very low in India at just 22 cars per 1000 and thus he expected demand to pick up in the next few months even for the luxury since there was still a lot of pent-up demand.
The new A6 goes up against the Mercedes Benz E-Class and BMW 5 series which were both launched last year, and the range for the new vehicle starts at Rs 54.2 lakhs. It features several new digital technologies including touchscreen controls, a new Audi telematics app and new lught technology both at the front and behind. Speaking at the launch, Virat Kohli described himself as an Audi fanboy and said that it was great to be associated with a brand that he loved.
