War between IAS and IPS hot up in Ghaziabad

Friday, 13 July 2018 | PNS | Lucknow

The ongoing war between officers of Indian Administrative Services (IAS) and Indian Police Services (IPS) again hot up, this time in Ghaziabad, over power to post police station in-charges.

SSPof Ghaziabad, Vaibhav Krishna wrote to the government asking to shift him as he was not in cordial terms with District Magistrate Ritu Maheshwari.

Interestingly, while DGP, OP Singh maintained that he was not aware of any such move, Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar confirmed receiving the letter and said that the government was looking into it.

Interestingly, in May, after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath intervened, acting Chief Secretary Pravir Kumar withdrew orders asking the SSPs to take consent of respective DMs before posting police station in-charges.

The move was made after UP Indian Police Services Officers Association (UPIPSOA) members pressured the government and expressed open displeasure.

Recently in Ghaziabad, SSP, Vaibhav Krishna shifted some station officers and was promptly asked to explain by DM, Ritu Maheshwari. The DM even went on to ask the SSP as to why no action should be taken against him for flouting ‘orders’.

An upset Krishna, apprised the development to senior officers and also wrote to the state government. He claimed that since `Kanwar Yatra’ was round the corner in the month of `Sharawan’, it would be difficult to maintain law and order, as DM Ritu Maheshwari was not convinced with his working. He requested for his immediate transfer to some other place.

Earlier in May, DM of Gautam Buddha Nagar (Noida) Brajesh Narayan Singh cancelled the posting of seven SHOs made by SSP Ajay Pal Singh. Singh wrote to the SSP and objected to the new postings without his consent as per new rules laid by the government.

Earlier during Mayawati’s tenure in January, 2012, the then DM of Siddharthanagar, Chaitra V and SP, Mohit Gupta crosed swords over posting of SHOs.

Chaitra also cancelled Gupta’s orders and wrote that no one could be made in-charge till she ‘interviewed’ the officer and checked whether he was suitable for the post or not.

Their differences came to the fore when then Commission of Basti, Alok Srivastava questioined Gupta for not providing deployment of force for elections. Gupta informed that he had already provided it to the DM two days back but Chaitra argued that it was provided to her a few hours before the meeting. later, taking sides with the IAS officer, the Commissioner abrasively chastised the SP which was objected by the latter. When some of Gupta’s colleagues tried to defuse the situation, the Commissoner asked them to mind their own business. Agitated with this, the IPS Association took up the matter strongly, after which both DM and SP were shifted.
