Noted Urdu poet Anwar Jalalpuri died at the age of 71 on Tuesday, four days after suffering a brain stroke in lucknow.
A Yash Bharti recipient, Jalalpuri is best known for his translation of shloks of Bhagvad Gita into Urdu verses.
The veteran poet was not keeping well after the death of his daughter in london on November 17 last year. He fell in the bathroom and was taken to a lucknow hospital where doctors found him critical with a brain clot. The last rites will be performed in his hometown Jalalpur in Ambedkarnagar.
Governor Ram Naik condoled the death of the veteran Urdu poet and said that Anwar Jalalpuri was a shining example of inter-faith harmony as he had translated Bhagwad Gita to Urdu language.
