Birsa Munda park to have museum- cum- recreational centre

The residents of capital city will soon get to check out the glance of one of the greatest tribal leaders, Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s struggle, life history and role in presenting a separate identity of Adivasis at a city park being decked up on the lines of tribal culture.

Taking into account the twin benefits to capture the interest of denizens, besides just focusing on increasing the green wraps within the capital city through regular activities like creating fun-zone, putting plant saplings, attempts are being made to conserve the tribal murals, lingos, cultural and traditions through unique ways.

Bhagwan Birsa Smriti Park situated in the heart of the State Capital was left in total muddle despite the order from the State government to develop this park with all essential features. Now, after so many years, the park will soon be presented among the leisure buffs in the whole new avatar. Popularly known as Old Birsa Jail Campus among the public here, Bhagwan Birsa Smriti Park is set to become a museum cum recreational centre.

To spread the essence of different tribal cultures ranging from dance, dialects to demography, Jharkhand Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation limited (JUIDCO) is developing the park at Jail More taking inspiration from the tribal roots.

Paying attention to different tribal features as many as 32 small huts are being created inside this park. Interestingly, the tribes of Jharkhand consist of 32 tribes (8 primitive) inhabiting in the land of forests since ages. Specially catering to the need of present generation to familiarize them with tribal groups, the small huts with rustic backdrop will give the glimpse of different tribal groups’ way of living, folklores etc. These huts will be known as ‘Tribal Bhawans’. All the huts will have something different to offer to the visitors.

To create a pastoral ambiance, besides the huts, JUIDCO is creating two markets aka Haats to promote the dying tribal artifacts. Exotic art and crafts covering hand knitted products, tribal paintings and other indigenous goods will be available for sale at the park. Apart from indulging oneself in just wellbeing activities, fitness freaks, including the visitors will have an option to treat themselves with some rich delightful cuisines at a separate food court here.

Kids’ amusement park to revive the cultural of outdoor playground with colourful gizmos is being constructed. Also, a Subway is being created inside the park for public convenience connecting the park and a pond. The small water reservoir inside the park is being restored too.

Expanding the civic work and using each left-over building there, the prisons will be converted into a digital museum where time to time exhibition of different tribal affairs will be organized. However, the engineers have been instructed to leave the prison cell as it is where Bhagwan Birsa Munda was kept for long as a mark of tribute.

located at one of the prime spots, the park will have the facility of parking zone as well where around 350 vehicles can be parked at a time. “This is not just a normal recreational site but this park will have every element of entertainment for all age groups. Our focus is to develop the park into a big knowledge hub. Facilities like rain water harvesting, sewerage treatment plant, e-rickshaw service will make this park as one of the prime recreational sites of Ranchi,” said JUIDCO Project Director, DD Mishra. Being constructed at a whopping cost of Rs. 106 crore covering approximately 34 acres of land, the park will be opened for city residents in 2019.
