Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will inaugurate ambitious 'Ro Ro ferry' services on Saturday which will connect Saurasahtra and South Gujarat across the Gulf of Khambhat.
Due to the fairy services distance between Ghogha near Bhavnagar in Saurashtra in the west and Dahej in South Gujarat will be decrease by almost 300 kms. By road distance between the two destination is neat 360 km and it takes more than 10 hours to travel. However the fairy will reach Dahej within one hour by completing just 32 kms across the Gulf.
For the completion and functioning of the project Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has formed an SPV (special purpose vehicle) and roped in Indigo Seaways Private Limited on a public private partnerships (PPP) mode.
The group has invested around Rs 140 crore for the project and bought a south Korean vessel 'Voyage Symphony'. The vessel is a double-ended ferry that will sail at an average speed of 15-17 knots with a transit time of one hour between the two shores. Boarding and unboarding the vehicles, passengers off the vessel will take another hour.
As per agreement the tariffs for the services will be shared by the GMB and the Indigo Seaways, but the exact share was not disclosed by any of the party. For multi wheeled empty cargo (one driver and one cleaaner), the charges for trucks and buses will be Rs 4,500, Rs 800 for cars, Rs 150 for two wheelers. Additional charges for trucks will be Rs 125 per Ton and Rs 2,500 for 36 passengers per bus.
As far as passengers are concerned, the tariff is Rs 200 for economy class and Rs 400 for luxury for single trip.
