As many as 15 people, mostly the crew, were rescued on Friday evening, as a popular floating restaurant ‘Ark Deck Bar’ capsized partially off the Mumbai coast near Bandra jetty, apparently due to huge tidal waves Mekunu cyclone.
During the course of the day, the vessel had tilted dangerously, prompting the owners of the floating restaurant to reach ashore the stranded persons on board in small motorboats.
A luxurious offshore dining and party attraction, the ‘Ark Deck Bar’ floatel had a capacity to accommodate 150 people at a time. It was anchored some distance off the Bandra Jetty, a location that offered a panoramic view of the Mumbai skyline and the Rajiv Gandhi Bandra-Worli Sea link.
Meanwhile, in a case of mistaken identity, a section of electronic media went to town saying that Mumbai’s first floatel, ‘AB Celestial’ had capsized.
Contesting the reports that her floatel had capsized, owner of ‘AB Celestial’, Aishwarya Bhende said that her vessel was shifted to and anchored off the Ferry Wharf in south Mumbai a couple of days ago in the wake of a warning issued by the maritime authorities about the impending Mekuni Cycone.
“There seems to be a confusion regarding an event that occurred today. Please do not panic after reading news articles about “AB Celestial”.
Our floatel is absolutely safe and is in anchor at the Ferry Wharf . We safely docked it away at Ferry Wharf two days ago,” she said.
