A 48-year-old Delhi Police head constable committed suicide by shooting himself at the Police Training College in Southwest Delhi's Jharoda Kalan area late on Thursday night. Police suspect that the Head Constable took the extreme step as he was disturbed in his personal life.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Head Constable Jitendra. He had joined Delhi Police in 1991. He was currently posted at the Police Training College (PTC) in West Delhi's Jharoda Kalan.
A senior police officer said that on Thursday night, Jitendra was on night duty. He left home at 7.30 pm and came to the College where other police personnel heard a gunshot and found him, bleeding profusely. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead on arrival. He fired at himself with his service revolver. No suicide note was found,”
The body was sent for post-mortem to Rao Tula Ram Hospital and his family informed.
“We are trying to ascertain the reason behind his suicide. Prima facie, he was not happy from the last couple of days,” said the officer.
The senior officer said that it appears that Head Constable Jitendra was drunk at the time of his suicide. We are trying to establish where he consumed liquor. During preliminary investigation, we found that Jitendra had a scuffle with his wife after which he left his house in Najafgarh.
Jitender was a native of Haryana's Jhajjar and had joined Delhi Police in 1991. He is survived by a wife and two children while his parents live in Rohtak, Haryana.
