Yogi government committed ending corruption

Tuesday, 31 October 2017 | PNS | Lucknow

With a resolve to give clean administration, the Yogi government is contemplating action against around 250 engineers of PWD department to send a signal that it was committed to ending corruption in government working.

A highly placed source said that the government has made a list of around 250 engineers who could be given compulsory reitrement in coming days.

“The list has been sent to Chief Minister for his approval. Once we get the green signal, necessary action would be taken which could be a golden handshake as per government rules or the incumbent’s services could be terminated depending on the gravity of charges being faced,” an official said.

He said that initially a list of 392 officers was prepared and after first screening, it was pruned to almost 250. The said list has been sent to Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar from where it will go to Chief Minister for clearance.

Among engineers likely to be given VRS, three are of executive engineer rank,  78 of assistant engineer rank and 116 of junior engineer rank.  There are at least 50 more engineers who are also in the list of officials to be given VRS.

The hint of government might go for a kill came last month when PWD minister Keshav Prasad Maurya said that a secret process is on to identify corrupt officers.  He had warned that those who will b found guilty would be sacked or would be asked to take VRS.

The official said that government had earlier suggested that those who have attained 50 years of age and were not found `fit’ should be given VRS.

“The government is looking at different options to identify and weed out the corrupt. A beginning has been made from PWD and other departments were likely to follow suit,” he said.
