Punjab will soon get a Sports University in Patiala to give the much-needed impetus to the State’s sporting talent.
“Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has decided to establish a Sports University in Patiala which would lead to the sports sector in the state getting a further boost,” said State Higher Education and linguistics Minister Aruna Chaudhary on Tuesday.
Chaudhary also congratulated the Punjabi University, Patiala, for winning the coveted Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) trophy while crediting the players, coaches, parents, Sports Department and the University authorities for the crowning glory which has seen the university emerging as the top notch university in sports for seventh time.
“MAKA trophy has been awarded to the Punjabi University for its par excellence achievements in sports amongst all the universities of the country,” said Chaudhary wjile terming it as a matter of great pride for Punjab.
Notably, the MAKA Trophy was awarded to the Patiala University by the President on Tuesday in a glittering award ceremony at New Delhi on the occasion of National Sports Day.
Chaudhary said that it speaks volumes about the sporting prowess of the universities and colleges of Punjab that has resulted in Guru Nanak Dev University at Amritsar, Panjab University at Chandigarh and Punjabi University at Patiala winning the trophy a whopping 43 times.
