The Department of Sports in Uttarakhand is gearing itself for successful hosting of ‘Khel Mahakumbh- 2017’, a mega sports event slated to be held from November 9 to December 13. The Education, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Arvind Pandey took a review meeting at secretariat for the event on Monday. In the meeting it was decided to ensure extensive publicity for the event. The Minister was informed that the process of online registration for the event has started and a mobile app has also been launched.
The sports event would be launched on the occasion of State foundation day in all district headquarters. The event would be held at village, block, district and state level. The aim of the programme is to promote awareness about sports, create conducive atmosphere for sports and provide a platform for talented youngsters. Pandey said that active participation from education, panchayati raj and youth welfare departments are also needed for success of the event. He said that he would soon hold a video conferencing session with different departments on the subject. The meeting was attended by secretary sports H S Chugh, joint director Atar Singh, director sports Prashant Arya and other officers of department of sports.
