Rain lashes parts of Punjab, Haryana; brings down temp

Rains lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, bringing the mercury level down at most of the places in the two States. Several parts of the two States, including Mohali, Ropar, Panchkula, Ambala and Yamunanagar, were lashed by rain.

The maximum temperatures, which had been hovering in the range of 41-44 degrees Celsius at most places in Punjab and Haryana for the past several days, dropped by a few notches on Thursday, said a Met official.

Chandigarh, the joint capital of the two States also witnessed light rain and recorded maximum temperature at 35.5 degree Celsius, three notches below normal. 

Ambala in Haryana registered a maximum temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius, a notch below normal, while

Karnal recorded a high of 39.2 degrees Celsius. Hisar, however, had a hot day at 42 degrees Celsius.

Punjab’s Amritsar recorded 4.8 mm rainfall till Thursday morning and settled at maximum temperature of 39.3 degree Celsius.

ludhiana in Punjab recorded a high of 37.5 degrees Celsius and Patiala registered a maximum temperature of 39.3 degrees Celsius.

The minimum temperature recorded was 27.6 degree Celsius in Chandigarh, 26 degrees in Karnal, 25.8 degrees in Hisar, 25.7 degrees in Amritsar, 26.8 degree Celsius in ludhiana and 27.6 degree Celsius in Patiala.

According to the Met Department forecast, light to moderate rain is likely in the region over the next 48 hours.
