The Orissa Environmental Society (OES) discussed various environmental issues being faced by the world and its contribution at its 36th foundation day held here on Sunday.
Forests and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray attending as chief guest said a State achieves true development when utilisation of natural resources and prioritisation of environment development happen simultaneously.
Former Ambassador Abasar Beuria talked about Odisha’s natural resources and possibilities of development.
Former PCCF Saroj Kumar Patnaik presented ‘Prasanna Kumar Das Memorial lecture’ on this occasion. Dr Uday Narayan Deb was conferred lifetime award and Prof Ramesh Chandra Parida was given Dr Bishnu Charan Panda Award.
Besides, 16 persons were given fellowship for the first time. They include Prof Satyananda Acharya, Prof Madhab Chandra Dash, Prof Debi Prasad Ray, Prof Rebati Charan Das, Prof Amulya Kumar Panda and Er Binod.
At the outset, OES secretary Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi read out annual report while Prof B Sitaram Patra anchored the meeting. Dr lala AK Singh, Dr Rekha Das, Dr Chittaranjan Mishra, Dr ladukesh Mishra and Prakash Chandra Jena coordinated the programme.
Notably, the OES had come into being way back in 1982 and has contributed a lot in protection of the Odisha’s environment.
