The Kandhamal twins Jaga and Balia are still very weak but slowly improving and they would stay in the ICU for seven to 10 days more in the ICU, informed an official release of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delh on Monday
Notably, the twins were separated by heads in a major operation at the AIIMS on October 25 by a team of 40 doctors under the guidance of neurosurgeon Prof Asok Mohapatra and Dr Deepak Gupta.
They are still in the ICU and a team of 15 consultants and 10 residents are looking after looking after them under the supervision of Prof AK Mahapatra and Dr Deepak Gupta. They are also being looked alter by Plastic Surgeons,” said the release.
It further said that the condition of the babies is stable and they are slowly improving. Breathing is good and hemodynamically stable. They are looked after by Neuroanaesthetists and Neurosurgeons 24X7 and dedicatedly supported by Pediatric Intensive Care specialist, Pediatric Cardiologist, Pediatric Neuro and Pediatric Nephorologists.
“Jaga is showing response to some commands and on dialysis to support his compromised kidney function.
We hope the condition to improve slowly over 10-15 days.
They are still very sick and will have to stay in the ICU for 7-10 days or longer depending on need,” the release said.
