The State Government’s decision to hold the winter session of the Vidhan Sabha in Gairsain in an impractical decision as holding the session there during the winter will cause inconvenience to the people. The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and Haldwani MlA, Indira Hridayesh said this while talking to media persons after an event here on Monday.
Hridayesh opined that in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party winning majority of the seats and forming its government had created a situation wherein the opposition was in a better position while the members of the treasury benches were feeling hassled. This will definitely benefit the Congress party in the coming elections. The leader of opposition also questioned the BJP state government for the quarrying activities on the Gaula river still remaining closed. She alleged that this situation had come about because the BJP was trying to award tenders for the weighing scales used to measure the quarried materials to its “own people”. Stating that the Central Government’s demonetisation move had created major problems for many, she said that the Congress party will be observing November 8 as ‘black day’ across the nation against the negative repercussions of demonetisation.
Earlier, she inaugurated a community marriage hall constructed with funds provided through Rajya Sabha member Raj Babbar’s MP local area development fund. Speaking on the occasion, she said that the state government will soon approach the High Court and Supreme Court against the unplanned expansion of the areas under municipal corporations and other urban local bodies. She opined that disappointment was rising in the general public after the formation of the BJP government in Uttarakhand. The ration cuts by the government have created hardships for the common people. She alleged that the developmental works which had been initiated by the Congress government, were stalled by the BJP government which is failing to facilitate development as required. The state government has failed even to repair the potholes formed on the national highway constructed during the term of the Congress government. Referring to the Congress party workers, Hridayesh said that they also need to give up all their differences and strive to bring the Congress back in office.
