'Babus' directed to attend Hisar mega event

Tuesday, 31 October 2017 | Nishu Mahajan | Chandigarh

The Manohar lal Khattar Government has directed the top brass of Haryana bureaucracy to attend the closing ceremony of Swarna Jayanti Mahotsav to be held at Hissar on Tuesday.

The BJP-led Haryana Government has issued this directive asking all administrative secretaries and Heads of Departments in Haryana to remain present at the event to be attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu as a chief guest.

The closing ceremony of Haryana Swarna Jayanti celebrations and Khel Mahakumbh scheduled to begin at 11 am in Mahavir Stadium, Hisar, will be presided over by Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki. Apart from Chief Minister Manohar lal and his cabinet colleagues, senior BJP leaders from Haryana will also attend the mega event.

The maiden BJP-led Haryana Government, which has completed its three years term in office on October 26, will highlight its major achievements at the mega event. Besides making a series of announcements at the function, the Chief Minister will list out the achievements of his Government during the last three years.

In the order issued by Chief Secretary DS Dhesi’s office, it has been clearly mentioned that all senior officers should be present on this historic occasion.

It stated, “The State of Haryana is celebrating 50 years of its formation and during the last one year, various functions have been organised in the State to instill a sense of pride in the general public. As you are aware that the closing ceremony of the year-long celebrations will be held on October 31 at Hisar and Venkaiah Naidu will grace the occasion.”

“The State Government has decided that it will be in the fitness of things that all senior officers should be present on this historic occasion. You are directed to attend the function,” stated the CS order addressed to Administrative Secretaries and HoDs in Haryana.

With such directions, the routine work like public dealing is likely to be pushed to the backseat as the senior officers of Haryana will remain busy for the entire day at the event on Tuesday. This is not the first time that the BJP Government has asked the bureaucrats to turn up for an event.

last year, the Government had directed all the senior officers to turn up at the yoga camp organised in June at Panchkula. The camp with State brand ambassador and Yoga Guru Ramdev was held in the run-up to International Yoga Day celebrations in Chandigarh.

At that time, these directions had snowballed into a political controversy with the opposition parties accusing the ruling BJP of diverting public attention from real issues by organising such events while few bureaucrats had termed it as a move to reduce them as “RSS stooges”. later, the Haryana Government had also asked the bureaucrats to participate in International Yoga Day celebration held on June 21 last year at Chandigarh in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
