A local opened fire from his licensed gun on a JCB driver, a member of the municipal corporation team that launched an anti-encroachment drive at Indra Colony area in Dehradun on Monday. The driver escaped narrowly. The local identified as Tejoraj Patwal who is running a football academy was arrested after Vinay Pratap Singh, tax supervisor, land, municipal corporation registered a complaint against him with police.
In his complaint, Singh stated that the team that conducted the drive included Ved Prakash Baghani, assistant engineer, Prem Kumar Sharma, additional engineer, Nepal Singh, inspector (in-charge), Rajendra Prasad Uniyal, patwari, Nagar Nigam and krishan Kumar, JCB driver.
At 2.10 pm, when the team was engaged in freeing the encroached municipal corporation’s land, Tejoraj Patwal along with some of his relatives allegedly attacked team members with bamboos. later Tejoraj allegedly fired shot at the JCB driver Krishan Kumar.
Police team reached the spot and controlled the situation.
Based on the complaint, a case under sections 307/332/353 of IPC was registered against Tejoraj Patwal and his family members in the Vasant Vihar police station. Police arrested Patwal and seized his gun. A case under 27 Arms Act has been registered too against Patwal.
The accused would be sent to jail after being produced in the court, said senior superintendent of police Nivedita Kukreti.
