All preparations for ‘Run for Unity’ to be held in Dehradun to mark the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Tuesday have been made, said the district police brass on Monday, adding that thousands of people, including students, local politicians and public representatives, are expected to attend the commemorative run.
Meanwhile, anticipating a huge turnout, Dehradun district police have drafted a traffic plan and asked the people to follow the revised routes to avoid inconvenience on the roads.
A district official said that as per the schedule, the run for unity races would be taken out from four places in the city and they would end at police lines in Dehradun after tributes are paid to the first Union home minister of the country. The programme would end with an oath taking ceremony for unity. Uttarakhand Governor K K Paul and chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat would garland the statue of Sardar Patel at Clock Tower before they attend the commemorative run at police lines which would start at 8 am and end at 8.30 am. Several cabinet ministers and local MlAs are also expected to take part in the run for unity in Dehradun.
SSP Dehradun Nivedita Kukreti said on Monday that elaborate security arrangements have been put into place with the deployment of additional police forces at various places in the state capital. Adequate traffic forces would be deputed at crossings to keep traffic smooth in the city, she added.
SP traffic DS Gunjyal said that the run would start from four places at the same time- Municipal Corporation, Vidhan Sabha, Pavilion Ground and Kisan Bhawan- and they would converge at police lines. He further said that participants have been appealed to park their vehicles at the designated parking venues.
