The Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that 60 per cent work on the 135-km long Eastern-Peripheral Expressway, which is being constructed as per international standards from Kundli to Palwal, had already been completed.
Efforts are being made to complete the construction by August this year, said the Union Minister while addressing a press conference at Palwal after conducting an aerial survey of the progress on the Eastern-Peripheral Expressway near village Jahllaka. Gadkari said, completion of this project would reduce vehicle pressure up to 50 per cent on Delhi, besides the pollution.
This is the first Access Control Expressway being constructed at a cost of Rs 4,418 crore. After completion, vehicles would not have to enter Delhi for mutual transit in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, he said. While lauding the efforts of the Haryana Government in getting completed the expressway work in its territory, the Union Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone of the Eastern-Peripheral Expressway on November 5, 2015.
like Eastern Peripheral Expressway, work on construction of Western Peripheral Expressway from Kundli to Palwal in the State is being done by the Haryana Government. Work on the Palwal-Manesar section of the 135-km-long Kundli-Manesar-Palwal project has already been completed, he said. Gadkari said apart from smooth movement of traffic in the area, new possibilities for development of industrial and business sector would be generated with the construction of Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
He said that a new era of economic development would commence in the area with its completion, and it would also supplement Government efforts on logistics improvement. Eastern Peripheral Expressway would pass through Baghpat, Gaziabad, Gautambudh Nagar and Faridabad, he added. Many modern techniques, including International Standards, Highway Traffic Management System, Electronic Signage, Video Incident Detection System, Warning Devices, Over Speed Checking System, Way-in Motion, Fire Optic Network are being used in this Access control Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
In this project, 222 structures out of 339 to be constructed like bridges, interchanges and over bridges have already been completed. In addition to the construction of main bridges on Yamuna river, Hindon river and Agra canal, eight railway over bridges, four over bridges, 45 small bridges, 77 underpasses and 152 pedestrian underpasses are included in this project.
The Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Krishan Pal Gujjar, Member of Parliament, Baghpat, Satpal Malik, and Chairman, National Highway Authority of India Yudhvir Singh Malik, were also present on this occasion.
