‘Kalrav-Bal Mela 2017’ on Thursday at IGRMS

Bhopal: Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya and NIWCYD Bachpan, Muskan NGO for children are organising ‘Kalrav-Bal Mela’ on Thursday January 12. The mela will be inaugurated by Bhopal Mayor Alok Sharma,  Director, IGRMS Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhari and Chairman, BMC Surjit Singh Chouhan at 10.30 am at Veethi Sankul premises of IGRMS. 300children of age group 8 to 16 years from various slums of the state capital will participate in this ‘Bal Mela’.  In this programme Drawing, Origamy, Storytelling, Puppet Show, Superstition, Clay Art, Hamara Bhopal, Mask Making, Film Screening, Two Plays, Dance programme and kite flying etc programmes will take place.

 

BHEl ladies club celebrates Couple Night

Bhopal: BHEl ladies Club the other day celebrated “Couples Night” with great zeal and fervor. On this occasion AMV Yugandhar, Executive Director BHEl, Bhopal was present as the Chief Guest. All vice-president of different centres run by the club and other members of the club were also present in the programme. ArunaYugandhar, President BHEl ladies Club informed the gathering about various welfare activities carried out by the club while Kiran Gupta welcomed the guest. Yugandhar in his address appreciated the social & welfare activities carried out by the club. On this occasion, a cultural programme was also organized under the direction of Jyoti Bhatt, Secretary, Culural Committee. At the end Manisha Sharma, Treasurer, Cultural Committee proposed the vote of thanks.

 

Hundreds take to streets protesting Katni SP's transfer

Katni: Hundreds of residents descended on streets in Katni district on Tuesday to protest against the transfer of Superintendent of Police Gaurav Tiwari. Tiwari who had not only put a check on crimes in the district but also played an important role in unearthing of 'hawala' trade to the tune of crores being carried out through the Axis Bank was transferred to Chhindwara on Saturday. Several reports of face-off between Madhya Pradesh Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Sanjay Pathak and the police had appeared in the media. Pathak could not be contacted for comment. Katni district is considered important with the viewpoint of mining. Suspecting that the transfer was carried out under political pressure, hundreds of agitators including youngsters and common people took to streets wearing a black strip and staged token demonstration. A call to observe bandh tomorrow has also been given. More people are reaching the district headquarters from rural areas. Meanwhile, Tiwari has left for Hyderabad for training following the transfer order. He has been replaced by Dewas Superintendent of Police Shashikant Shukla. Tiwari had opened a battle against timber mafia during his posting as the Balaghat SP.

 

Satyarthi disquieted over water pollution

Hoshangabad: Expressing concern over rising river pollution and unathorised mining, Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi said on Tuesday that if there were another "World War", it would be fought over water. He was participating in a programme, at Pasighat, to mark the Narmada Seva Yatra's entry into this district. Satyarthi made those present resolve to save daughters, plant saplings, maintain cleanliness in the villages and towns.

 

Bribe offer to Collector boomerangs

Sheopur: Offering a bribe to the District Collector has landed a man in the soup as the officer turned out to be forthright in his dealings. Official sources said Collector Abhijeet Agrawal met a man on a political leader's recommendation at his office on Sunday evening and assured him to consider his request pertaining to certain work. The man then left behind a tiffin box saying it contained sweets. Sources said that the Collector opened the box and was appalled to discover that it contained Rs 5-lakh in denomination of new notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 for facilitating the task. The Collector immediately sent his subordinates, summoned the individual and reprimanded him. Agrawal said he has taken a written apology from him. However, he has not lodged a police complaint. Meanwhile, sources said that preparations are being made to register a first information report (FIR) against him.

 

Canine wedding hosted

Sheopur: It was like any other traditional wedding with rituals and feasts, dance and merriment, pomp and grandeur; only departure being it concerned union of two dogs. The bizarre nuptial ceremony was organised by a divorced woman, Sharda Joshi, yesterday. Groom 'Helicopter' and bride 'Ambika' were dressed in new clothes. A wedding procession was taken out on the occasion. Separated from her husband several years back, Sharda started raising street dogs as her children since and named several of her pampered pooches after actors and political leaders. Recently, she discussed with some nearby youths her desire to get them married. These kind-hearted youths then arranged Rs 5,000 by collecting funds for the purpose.
