R Jadeja's Rajkot restaurant raided, inedible food found

Indian cricket star Ravindra Jadeja’s restaurant in Rajkot was raided by the health department personnel on Friday, where they found inedible food stuff.

The restaurant ‘Jaddu’s Food Field’ situated on the posh Kalavad Road area was raided by Rajkot Municipal Corporation health officials, said sources, adding that the team of health officials, who went to check the quality of food stored in the restaurant of Ravindra Jadeja and nearby eateries, including franchise of the global fast food chain McDonalds as well as local eatery Verona Italica, found quality of food to be suspect.

A total of 212 kg of eatables were found to be of poor quality, not carrying expiry date, fungus induced bakery products and stale vegetables, said the official. The Jadeja’s restaurant had stored cooked food, bakery products and accompaniments in deep freezer for a relatively long time. Moreover, the team also found traces of use of Ajino moto and artificial colours to be used during cooking. The raw materials too were found to be stored in unhealthy environs. In all about 35 kg of food products were destroyed and the restaurant that is managed by Ravindra’s sister has been issued a notice for not following hygienic practices. last year in December, RMC had demolished illegal construction in the backyard of Jadeja’s restaurant adjoining kitchen.

Meanwhile, in the nearby McDonalds outlet, the health officials found that the eatery had not displayed the Food license properly and had stored food items beyond expiry date. Some of the raw material stored, including non-vegetarian food, were also found to be not in packages, both food with expiry date and fresh food were stored in the same place. They were also found to have stored vegetarian and non vegetarian raw material in the same place. Here too, the officials got 35 kg of food items destroyed and issued notice to the franchise.
