Bakshi Ka Talab will see 99 gram sabhas going for polls on February 19. Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the constituency four days ago that is all set to witness a triangular contest between the BSP party candidate Nakul Dubey, BJP party representative Avinash Trivedi and the Samajwadi Party sitting MlA Gomti Yadav.
“People here will vote on caste basis. Brahmins votes are going to be divided because there is a Brahmin also standing as an independent candidate,” said priest of the famous Chandrika Devi temple adding that Nakul Dubey visited the constituency whereas others are yet to come.
Gomti Yadav, who is the sitting MlA is very confident of winning the elections and said, “I will be getting votes from people cutting across caste and religion. In terms of development, I have established power stations; got hand pumps erected in several villages under the lohia gram villages, built roads and constructed two colleges. I have been elected from this part at least four times in the past. If elected again I will specially look into the issue of water supply which is a problem here.”
Asked to name his strongest contender he said it was the BJP contestant.
BSP’s Nakul Dubey said, “My opponent Gomti has done no work in his constituency in the past five years.”
He further pointed out that there was a clear inclination towards the BSP party if the ground realities were checked. “law and order is a major issue as well as anarchy. It was difficult for women to step out in the night after 10 pm during the SP rule. No development work has been carried out,” he said.
On the other hand BJP’s Avinash is banking on Brahmin votes. “People will vote me because of Narendra Modi. I will build a trauma centre and power station in this are apart from getting a degree college for the women,” he said.
