SC adjourns hearing on J&K's special status

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday adjourned the hearing of the plea challenging Article 35A of the Constitution which empowers the Jammu & Kashmir legislature to define its 'permanent residents' and bestow on them special rights and privileges.  A three-judge Bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Mishra adjourned the hearing after the Centre told the court that it has appointed a representative to hold talks with all stakeholders to resolve the Kashmir issue, and contended that it was not the right time to proceed with the matter.

CBI apologises to Orissa HC Chief Justice

New Delhi: The CBI on Monday told the Supreme Court that it has apologised to the Orissa High Court Chief Justice and a sitting judge concerned in the matter pertaining to alleged attempt by its probe team to raid his residence. The agency informed the court that the judges concerned were "kind enough" to accept its unconditional apology. The CBI had claimed that there had been a mix-up as the sitting judge had shifted into the house of a former HC judge against whom it had intended the raid.

AP Maheshwari appointed DG Bureau

New Delhi: Senior police officer AP Maheshwari, a 1984 batch IPS, was on Monday appointed Director General of Bureau of Police Research and Development. He has replaced Meeran C Borwankar, a 1981 batch IPS officer of Maharashtra cadre, who completed her tenure last month.

Rly officer Vikram is Pvt Secy to Prez

New Delhi: Railway officer Vikram Singh was appointed Private Secretary to President Ram Nath Kovind. Singh is a 1997 batch officer of the Indian Railway Traffic Service.

Ajit assumes charge as naval Vice-Chief

New Delhi: Vice Admiral Ajit Kumar assumed charge as the Vice Chief of Naval Staff. He succeeds Vice Admiral Karambir Singh who will take charge as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command.

Govt to organise science talent search

New Delhi: The Government will soon organise the  largest-ever national science talent search in India — Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM) wherein over one lakh students from 1,900 centres across the country will participate. The VVM App through which the tests will be conducted will be launched by Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Alphons Joseph on Tuesday.
