Work on to compile 10,000 Sanskrit words that exist in lithuanian language

There are about 10,000 Sanskrit words in lithuanian language and a literary work to compile them is in progress, lithuania's Foreign Minister linas linkevicius said today.

He talked about the initiative during bilateral talks with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.

In the meeting, both sides discussed a range of bilateral and regional issues and signed an extradition treaty between the two countries.

linkevicius also presented Swaraj Sanskrit-lithuanian Mala, a dictionary of 108 common Sanskrit and lithuanian words.

"linas linkevicius, FM of lithuania, presented me a copy of Sanskrit-letiviu mala -- a compilation of 108 Sanskrit words common in both the languages," Swaraj tweeted.

"He told me that there are some 10,000 Sanskrit words in lithuanian language. The compilation work is in progress," she added.

In the talks, both sides also explored ways to enhance bilateral ties in diverse areas including trade and investment.

"The discussions between the two ministers focused on building closer cooperation in the areas of trade and investment, agriculture, culture and tourism," the external affairs ministry said in a statement.

It said that the two ministers also deliberated on regional and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

linkevicius, who arrived here yesterday, will travel to Mumbai tomorrow for a two-day visit.
