A 26-year-old model-cum-actor was killed while his two friends sustained injuries when their Honda Amaze car was hit by a speeding Honda City near a red light in North-West Delhi's Bharat Nagar area in the wee hours of Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Narula.
Family members claimed that Narula, who is based in Mumbai now, came to Bharat Nagar to celebrate Diwali with the family.
On Saturday night, he made an impromptu plan for an outing with his friends Randeep and Yogesh.
Police said that Abhishek was heading to an ATM close to his house with Yogesh and Randeep at 1 am before heading for Ashok Vihar.
“The accident took place at around 2 am when the three friends reached the traffic signal near Sundar lal Jain Hospital, with Abhishek at the wheel of Yogesh's Honda Amaze. He stopped the car since it was a red light. It was then that their car was hit by a speeding Honda City that was jumping the red light.
“Passers-by said that the collision between the two cars was so severe that when the speeding Honda City rammed into the Amaze, Abhishek was flung out of the front window,” said a senior police official.
After hitting the trio’s car, the driver of the Honda City fled from the spot.
Meanwhile, on hearing the loud crash, the locals made a call to the police and rushed Abhishek to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. While Yogesh and Randeep, both of them who suffered severe injuries were admitted to hospital.
Police said that a case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the Bharat Nagar Police Station. Police added that they have been able to identify the driver of the Honda City. He used to work as a private taxi driver. Teams have been formed to nab him.
