leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta has demanded that the Delhi Government should provide alternative accommodation to the hostellers of Andh Mahavidyala situated at Panchkuian Road on humanitarian grounds so that they can be resettled in the span of four weeks as ordered by the Delhi High Court.
There are about 103 students in Andh Mahavidyalaya Hostel and out of which 58 students are staying in hostel even after passing their examinations are required to be evicted in compliance of the court order.
Gupta said, "In compliance of order passed by court, in WP (C) 3444 / 2008 lalit and Others versus NCT of Delhi and another, Directorate of Education (DTE) had issued a notice in September 2016, for eviction in six months of students who were staying in Andh Mahavidyalaya Hostel unauthorisedly."
"The notice also provided that all assistance will be provided for finding alternative arrangements for them," said Gupta, adding, "Since the Government failed to make such alternative arrangements, students of Andh Mahavidyalaya Hostel were forced to approach the court again."
He said the Government should not wait for the 4-month deadline and to make immediate arrangements for the accommodation of students, saving them from being removed.
Gupta also questioned whether the intention of the city Government was to oust blind students from the Hostel. There are anti-social elements who are trying to illegally occupy the Hostel as there appears to be lack of proper administration in the Andh Mahavidyalaya.
