In a big relief for industries in Manesar and commuters, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who was in Gurugram to launch highway projects, announced on Tuesday that the Kherki Daula toll plaza will be shifted eight km beyond Manesar within three months.
If this happens, it will make the entire stretch from Delhi to the Manesar industrial area toll-free. It will also benefit lakhs of people who are in the process of or are moving into Gurugram's new sectors around Dwarka Expressway and the southern peripheral road.
Gadkari and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar lal Khattar inaugurated two National Highway projects and also laid the foundation stone of the 5.5 km six-lane elevated road on the Gurugram-Alwar Highway connecting Rajiv Chowk with Sohna.
The entire cost of the project including construction of the elevated road and road widening till Alwar would be around Rs 1,700 crores.
The Minister inaugurated a four-lane flyover at Maharana Pratap Chowk on Mahrauli-Gurugram Road and an eight-lane flyover at Hero Honda Chowk on NH-48.
The project cost of the two flyovers is estimated to be Rs 34 crore and Rs 95 crore respectively.
The Minister also inaugurated a two-lane underpass from Chaudhary Baktawar Singh Road towards Delhi near Rajiv Chowk which will cost an estimated Rs 30 crore.
Meanwhile, the elevated road will start at Subhash Chowk and go beyond Badshapur village on the Gurugram-Alwar highway, also known as National Highway 248 A. Once complete, it will ensure a hassle-free ride to commuters on this busy stretch of 23-km-long Sohna road.
The move will especially benefit Sectors 33, 66 and 67, Islampur, Badshahpur, Bhondsi, Jharsa, Sohna and Fazilpur. The corridor will also benefit the commuters going to Sohna or Nuh, Palwal or Alwar, who now have to face heavy traffic jam on this stretch during peak hours.
Sohna road is a part of Sohna-Alwar Highway and more than 45,000 vehicles travel every day on the stretch.
Gadkari said the work on the national highways has been done in the last three years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "We want to improve the connectivity of entire Delhi-NCR region also we are trying our best to give better facilities to the commuters on Highways," the Minister, said.
