A 35-year-old businessman Pankaj Garg and his 32-year-old accountant Harish Bhati, were shot dead, while the driver had a narrow escape when their car was intercepted on the Bawana road when the businessman was heading to the bank to deposit Rs 25 lakh in Outer Delhi's Narela area on Monday morning.
According to the police, the driver of the deceased businessman has been identified as Amit Goyal. The incident took place at around 10:30 when unidentified bikers came and opened fire at them.
Police sources said that they suspect the role of the regular driver behind the robbery- cum-murder as he took leave on Monday and Pankaj Garg had to use Amit as the replacement driver. “Usually, their driver comes every day but on Monday, he took a leave,” police said.
Rishi Pal, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) said, “We received information that at around 10:30 am, a firing incident happened near the Old Grain Mandi on main road in Narela.
“Four men in a Maruti Eeco car were heading to a Bank of India branch. They were carrying Rs 25 lakh cash when two to three masked persons on motorcycle were waiting for them on the way and intercepted their Eeco van. They fired bullets indiscrimenately at the vehicle. Pankaj, 35 yrs and Harish, 32 yrs were declared dead. Amit Goel received injury on left arm.
During the course of investigation, we found that the regular driver did not report for duty on Monday and another employee was engaged as driver for the day.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Pawan Narela who was on patrolling duty near the spot, challenged the assailants but they managed to escape with the looted amount .
