A unique Children Summer Adventure Camp-2016 was organised by the Central Command of Indian Army at Chaubattia, Ranikhet from May 25 to May 31.
The camp was organised under the aegis of Garud Division/ Central Command for children of serving and retired personnel of Indian Army. An Army communiqué informed that 122 children of Surya Command (from all over the country) had a unique opportunity to spend one week in salubrious climate and pristine environment of Uttarakhand.
The camp was tailored to learn through fun-filled outdoor activities, the children were exposed to trekking, rock craft, rappelling, jungle survival techniques, self defense, knowledge of first aid, yoga and meditation, art and other host of activities.
The camp organisers claimed that children, who were in the age group of 12-18 years, participated in varied adventure activities, learnt new skills besides imbibing the spirit of harmony, cohesiveness along with decision making ability in the camp.
Children from different parts of the country learnt about each others’ cultures on a common platform and spirit of national integration. Various indoor and outdoor sports competitions were conducted to instil team spirit and camaraderie among the campers.
The participants also volunteered in sanitation activities in the spirit of Swach Bharat Abhiyan. Gallantry award winners also interacted with the participants and shared their experiences of service and special achievements. The children were given exposure of Organic Farming by progressive farmers and scientists while visiting facilities at Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Apple Garden located in the vicinity of Ranikhet.
