'People hit by East Rail Corridor project not getting redress'

Monday, 29 February 2016 | Staff Reporter | Raipur

The Congress on Sunday claimed that the people hit by  the East Railway corridor project which is underway for the construction of Bhupdevpur-Dharamjaigarh railway line are not getting jobs or compensation.

This had led to resentment among the people living in the region and they are forced to protest, claimed Chhattisgarh Congress Chief Bhupesh Baghel while addressing a press conference here at party’s state headquarters Congress Bhawan.

Targetting Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Forest, Environment and Climate Change Prakash Javdekar, Baghel questioned that why was environment clearance for the project given despite the fact that wildlife management and elephant corridor studies in the region had not been completed and excavation is ongoing in the private, Government as well as forest land in the area.

He alleged that 0-10 kms and 45-74 kms of the Kharasia-Gharghoda-Dharamjaigarh rail line has been awarded to GDCl, owned by Kamal Morarka, the company allegedly implicated in the infamous Balco chimney mishap. The CGPCC Chief said that 10-45 kms stretch has been awarded to SMS Infrastructure, which is owned by Ajay Sancheti and alleged that this is the same company that was allocated controversial Bhatgaon coal block in Chhattisgarh and the matter is still under investigation.
