Even though the Baleswar district administration has taken remarkable steps under the direction of the National Human Rights Commission last year to provide justice to the acid attack victim of Mirigini village in Nilgiri area of Baleswar district, the girl is yet to get handicapped certificate.
Notably, Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy had filled a petition at the NHRC on May 11 last year pointing out the incident of acid attack, threat and harassment to college student Subhashree Jena. He had sought intervention of the NHRC for free and proper medical treatment of the victim along with compensation and rehabilitation.
Under the direction of the NHRC, the matter was enquired by Baleswar SP, Nilgiri Sub-Collector and Baleswar CDMO. Besides, the Nilgiri SDJM has awarded `3 lakh under the victim compensation scheme.
However, the district administration has not given the handicapped certificate to her, lamented rights activist Tripathy
“The action of the entire district administration is highly satisfactory. However, she is yet to be issued a handicapped certificate with benefits meant for the differently-abled people,” he said.
