Newborns to have Aadhaar cards now

People in the city can now get Aadhar for their newly born children with the launch of Aadhaar linked Birth Registration (AlBR).

Governor of Haryana and Punjab and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Kaptan Singh Solanki launched it at a function organised in Haryana Raj Bhawan. With this, Chandigarh has become first Union Territory to launch Aadhaar link Birth Registration and second amongst all States/UT’s after Haryana. 

Adviser to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Deputy Director General, UIDAI, Home Secretary, Special Secretary Finance, Director Information Technology,  Director - PGIMER, Director Health Services, Director Principal, GMCH-32, Chandigarh and other officers of the Administration and UIDAI were present during the inauguration.

With the launch of AlBR, Chandigarh is now eyeing to attain 100 per cent Aadhaar saturation in coming months. At present, Aadhaar saturation in Chandigarh is 97.1 per cent with the UT ranked 6th in the country in terms of Aadhaar saturation.

Unique Identification Authority of India developed Android based portable application for Aadhaar Enrolment of children below 5 years called Child Enrolment lite Client (CElC) as biometrics of children in this age group -- fingerprints and iris are not captured. The CElC is operational on tablets.

Government and private hospitals in Chandigarh have purchased tablets and authentication devices to operate CElC. Training and certification to identified operators was provided by UIDAI Regional Office, Chandigarh. Upon completion of enrolment, Enrolment Number is printed on birth certificate and this data is saved in RGI as well as UIDAI database.

Officials said with this, infant receives its own very first unique identity, every new born will be covered for Aadhaar enrolment, state can ensure that no one is left out and plan for delivering the benefits to intended beneficiaries.

In addition, this is expected to help in tracking of service deliveries to children like immunisation, ICDS, School Education and other Social Welfare services.

Moreover, certified copies of birth certificate can be downloaded online with EID number.
