A round table discussion on Sustainable Thinking, Action and Reflection (STAR) was organised at the Xavier School of Sustainability, Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) on Friday.
Professionals from different walks of life like education, medicine, law, corporate and environmental science attended the meeting and shared their ideas at the event, organised in coordination with the Wipro Earthian, Wipro’s initiative to promote sustainability in schools and higher educational institutions.
XUB Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Paul Fernandes and spoke on how the university hopes to build new networks and maintain the bond. Wipro Earthian Manager Abhijit Zacharia and spoke on how Earthian is a movement towards mainstreaming sustainability in education.
“A major reason sustainability endeavors fail to create the kind of impact they are intended to do is due to gaps in education and awareness on such issues. Institutions should be the drivers of change,” he said.
The discussion was a part of the Wipro’s Earthian Programme that intends to create spaces for sustainability learning and action within the education process in schools and colleges. Xavier School of Sustainability Dean Prof S Peppin facilitated the discussion.
