Kapil Sibal declare assets

Congress Rajya Sabha candidate and former Union Minister Kapil Sibal declared assets worth over Rs 184.83 crores of himself and his spouse while filing nominations for the elections in lucknow on Monday.

Sibal, a senior advocate at the Supreme Court, has thus emerged as the second richest candidate in the RS biennial elections from UP.  Earlier, BSP candidate and senior advocate Satish Chandra Mishra had declared assets worth over Rs 193 crores while SP candidate Amar Singh had declared properties worth Rs 131 crores.

However the assets of Sibal have almost rose by Rs 70 crores in the last two years, increasing from Rs 114 crores shown during the 2014 lok Sabha polls to Rs 184.83 crores in 2016. 

As per the affidavit filed by Kapil Sibal, his movable assets were worth Rs 11.07 crores and that of his wife Rs 2.33 crores.  The movable assets include eight vehicles worth Rs 89.48 lakhs (2 motorbikes and a Mercedes car).

The couple owns immovable property worth Rs 171.42 crores. This include three agricultural plots in Mominpet (Andhra Pradesh) while non-agriculture land  in Faridabad, Raja Reddy district (Andhra Pradesh), ludhiana, Chandigarh and Bangalore.

Sibal also has flats and other properties in Patna, a bungalow in Maharani Bagh (New Delhi), Chandigarh, Gurgaon and Hyderabad. Of the total assets, Rs 7.27 crores were inherited by Sibal.

The Congress candidate for Rajya Sabha has also shown bank balance of Rs 13.80 crores in 14 bank accounts. Besides, he has also invested Rs 2.20 crores through mutual funds. As per IT declaration of Kapil Sibal in 2014-15, he had declared a total income of Rs 38.39 crores.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate for legislative Council Deepak Singh has shown assets worth over Rs 7 crores which includes movable assets worth over Rs 1.12 crores of himself and his wife along with two  children. The couple own immovable properties worth Rs 5.90 crores.
